A Day at the Zoo

This weekend we made a quick decision to head to the zoo with Aunt Kim and little Tate. They are only here for a few more days and we weren't going to waste a non-rainy day inside. It was a little overcast but it turned out to be a fantastic day for the zoo. There weren't very many people and the chill in the air had some of the animals feelin' frisky.

Our darling Tate! Poor little fellow had a rough start to our visit. He was so excited about the monkeys and was running to tell Uncle Cody all about them. Well, let's just say that toddlers, running, and asphalt don't mix very well. The sweet kid face planted and cracked his head open at the hairline. This gave me a chance to brush up on my first aide skills, and if any of you are curious, Hogle Zoo keeps a pretty good kit. I could have probably left out the gauze but it does give him a sweet little Rhino horn.

Sadie had a grand time strolling around with Daddy and Nanna. Occasionally Mya or Tate would climb up next to her. She is such a chill little baby, content to watch everything and enjoy the ride. She was a little miffed that her milk was cold but that was about the extent of her complaints.

When we got to these little creatures Mya once again surprised me when she yelled, "Lemurs!" Lemurs aren't generally a topic of conversation at our house, so I want to thank whomever taught her what a lemur was since it made my darling girl sound vastly educated and I appreciate that. :)

This trip Mya has shied away from Tate a bit. He is so sweet and loving and with this comes lots of hugs. For Aunt Aubry this is a joy but it makes Mya a little stressed since he outweighs her and when he hugs her he tends to tackle her as well. It's kind of funny; when she would start crying over something all the sudden we would hear 'no, No, NO!' because he would be coming to try and comfort her and she was terrified of being hugged.

Cody had stayed outside with the Sadie and the stroller and when we got to him Mya grabbed his hand and said 'Turtles daddy! Turtles!' and drug him inside to see Crush as well.

The tigers were definitely the highlight of the trip. Last year the zoo had 3 cubs born and now they look all grown up but are still super playful. We had a great time watching them wrestle each other. The would bat each other, stand on their hind legs and swat at one another and chase back and forth in their enclosure. The kids loved it and so did I. They are such beautiful, powerful and intimidating creatures.

We spent some time up close and personal with the giraffes and their disgustingly long tongues.
