Fancy!

Currently this is atop Mya's favorite book list.

She will bring it to me and request we read 'Fassy'; and as we read she has her favorite words that she likes to repeat. One is 'accessories' and the other is 'merci', I'll let you imagine how cute these sound coming out of her mouth. She tried to have Daddy read it the other day but they only made it a few pages before she took it away and brought it to me. You can't just make up words dad, she knows how it's supposed to go.

Girls Lunch

Saturday I had a fantastic afternoon catching up with my girlies from high school. It seems that we go far too long between visits; sadly it had been so long we did our Christmas gift exchange while we were out. But, despite how long we go without seeing one another it's wonderful how easy it is to just sit and just 'be' with these gals. Conversations flow freely along with plenty of laughter.
Aubrey and Aubry preggers - Yes, I admit that I am jealous of how stinkin' adorable she is pregnant!
Aubrey and I are due about 4 weeks apart, I was so excited to find out that she's having a little girl too! Now our little lady will be as lucky as I was to have great friends.
PS- don't mind how gigantic I look next to Aubs, I guess I should have taken my boots off.

Pork and Beans

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to serve in the Lindon Welfare Cannery. I wasn't looking as well put together as these ladies above but still with my hair net, plastic apron and gloves I was truly a vision. Yesterday was Pork and Beans day and I, my friends, put the 'beans' in the pork and beans. I spent my 3 1/2 hour shift operating the bean filler, which was pretty interesting. A large bean hopper across the way from me brought the soaked beans up a belt and then cascading down a Plexiglas funnel of sorts and into the awaiting cans. My duties for this position included making sure that the cans were completely filled with beans as they rolled past on the conveyor belt, I also was given the responsibility of operating the on and off switch for the previously described bean conveyor. If you run out of cans, off goes the bean belt. Next, as the full to the brim cans passed the bean cascade the conveyor began to shake back and forth, a bean shake down if you will, to make room for the sauce. What happened to the excess beans being shaken out after I so carefully made sure they were full, enter my next responsibility... bean recovery. Below the shake down area was a trough with water cycling through, I was to make sure that the beans got scraped down into the water so that they could return to the bean hopper and get another chance at getting canned. As I watched beans bouncing every which way I was amazed at the efficiency of this process, the mass amounts of product that was being produced, and how little waste there was. I realize that probably many factories work this way and I have never had the chance to see that but I really was amazed by our Church and this wonderful area that we have to serve those in need. I'll be honest that I was a little bit uneasy about spending my morning with total strangers canning pork and beans, but I absolutely loved it. The workers and the missionaries were exactly what you would expect, darling! And the other members there serving were so friendly and happy to be there. It was great! I am truly looking forward to my next opportunity to serve!

PS~ I'll let you in on a little secret... I am so thankful that I lucked out of being assigned the 'pork'. Preggo gag reflex has a hard enough time preparing meat for my family, let alone pinching off globs of pork fat from a giant vat and plopping it in cans. Tender mercy... Yep!

Our Uncle 'K' Day

Yesterday was our awesome Uncle 'K's 17th birthday!

I can't believe that my little brother is getting so old, but what can you do.

I love this kid so much, he is such an awesome brother and a fantastic uncle! He absolutely loves little Mya and she is totally in love with him. If he isn't downstairs when we arrive she knows right where his room is and will make her way there looking for him.

McKay, I hope you had a fantastic birthday and that you know how much I love you!

We went out to PF Chang's for a delicious birthday dinner!
Lettuce wraps, crispy honey shrimp, oh boy... pretty much everything makes me salivate!

Mya completely surprised me by chowing down on pretty much everything! This is the little girl that doesn't like veggies, meat, or real chicken. If it isn't a yogurt or nugget then forget it.
Apparently the noodles, Chang's chicken, orange peel chicken and shrimp were all acceptable 'nuggets', she even ate the lettuce wrap filling. Maybe she just needed food with a little spice.

She also served as our evening entertainment, showcasing her chopstick drummer skills.

I'm not sure what the background narration sounds like, we were trying to get her to smile for my dad but the scream at the end is worth it.

'Broked'

There has been a tragic loss for our little lady this past weekend. Friday night Cody and I finally got up the guts to get rid of the binki. I'll be honest, we probably have been hanging on this long because of me, Cody wanted to get rid of it months ago but I convinced him to let things go a little longer. The deciding factor was that she had a complete meltdown the other night when she couldn't find her 'me' in her bed. It was pretty dramatic on her part. So, that brings us to Friday night. Cody kept her busy in the other room, I swept her room and gathered all the 'me's that I could find save one. That one was the sacrifice, we cut a big chunk off the end and left it for her to find in her bed. She happily popped it in her mouth, then quickly took it out and looked at it with this 'somthin' aint right here scruffy' look then looked up at Cody and I. We explained to her that her 'me' was broken, and that we were so sorry. We helped her lay down, gave her a blanket and her puppy and said 'night-night'. Well we got to listen to some wailing that went along the lines of "mmeeeeeeeee", "brrroookked" over and over. It really was sort of heartbreaking. I told Cody, I felt worse doing this to her than letting her cry it out to sleep through the night for the first time. After about 20 minutes or so she finally fell asleep. I was amazed, I was totally expecting an all out drama fest filled with emotion induced vomit. She woke up again at about 11-ish, crying for her broken 'me', and we have had some middle of the night comforting to do the last couple nights. For the most part nap time has been the hardest. The first two days naps included some pretty impressive screams of anger, and took about 40 minutes before she actually slept. Today has been very encouraging, nap had only mild protesting and last night was better as well. We'll cross our fingers that by the end of the week all of us will be sleeping better.
